Reeferpoker.com launched on February 28, 2008 (2.28.2008) and within 48 hours had registered 1,800 players and over 200 affiliates. Today the only “pot-friendly poker community online” is 10 months old and according to Casino City (the leading information source and directory for the gambling industry), Reefer Poker ranks as the 67th most popular poker room online, in a field of 529. Note to the other 66 – Reefer Poker aims to be the best dealer on-line.

The dope-friendly, hip-hop sensibility of The Wackness, was the winner of the Los Angeles Film Festival Audience’s Award for Best Narrative. The film is set in New York in 1994 and features Kingsley rapping along to the Notorious BIG and smoking a Bong as he plays Dr. Jeffrey Squires, a new age psychiatrist who befriends his young patient (and pot dealer) Luke, played by Joshua Peck, and tries to help him do better with the ladies.

Ben Kingsley wasn’t the only one who took a huff off a bong in the pop cultural milieu this year — 2008 was a virtual cloud of silly smoke, with one actor even gaining a Golden Globe best actor nod for his pot dealer role. ~ Sony

Source: The Spoof – George Bush has decided to pardon all prisoners convicted of marijuana crimes. He had already pardoned one meth dealer as was reported in the The Spoof recently and decided it was time to take a sensible approach to the trillion dollar war on drugs.
In another part of the spoof report they joke about the truth of the issue:

A study Bush had ordered indicated that over one-trillion dollars had been wasted on the drug war since it was declared a couple of decades ago. He said that was enough money to provide every American and Mexican guest with 100% health insurance and prescription coverage and still have enough money left over for the infrastructure.

Growing Marijuana With Government Money – Published in the NY Times Is a Q&A conversation with Mahmoud A. Elsohly the research scientist who works at a cannabis laboratory in Oxford, Mississipi, which began in 1968. At this Bud Lab they investigate marijuana’s chemistry, from the weed farm where they grow over 100 strains of cannabis for federally approved researchers. This high-grade pot is smoked in clinical studies.
When asked about the lab and government sponsored grow operation….

Our material is employed in clinical studies around the country, to see if the active ingredient in this plant is useful for pain, nausea, glaucoma, for AIDS patients and so on.

Though cannabis had been used by man for thousands of years, it wasn’t until 1964 that the actual chemical structure of the active ingredient, tetrahydrocannabinol — THC — was determined. That stimulated new research on the plant.

Mahmoud A. Elsohly has the best job in the USA, too bad there aren’t more people (thousands) working in the same field (so to speak). Although the article is short it shares some good insight into the genetics of cannabis.
