Who is Reefer Smoke and why does he write?
The pressure is getting intense, many of you know that I’m an Ex-Pat Canuck (Canadian) living in Brazil but this info fails to answer the “Who, what, and why this blog continues to grow and attract more and more readers.
Some popular blogs are very personal and that’s often what readers like to find, candid stories people can relate to. In the cannabis culture niche most blogs tend to fall in one of two categories, either the repetitive marijuana review type or the anti-drug war type. While I think both of these issues have merit and I’ve read some good blogs that cover both of these topics fairly well, often they lose the personal touch and become too dry and a little boring.
Reefer Smoke is not about me, it’s about the Cannabis Culture in general, with a mix of poker as sub-plot because poker players like to smoke pot and these two pastimes fit well together. From the beginning though, this blog was engaged as a pursuit to explore the cannabis culture of both the Internet and the real world. We avoid stories of pot busts because that’s depressing and rarely report about politics of pot (ie. the anti-drug war) because it’s being so well covered by NORML and dozen other sites that are on the front-lines, we are not, nor do we want to be. We admire the activists, promote the mission of marijuana law reform but remain out of the fray. Reefer Smoke is mostly about the fun of getting high. -
Biggest Pot in High Stakes Poker
Filed under PokerJan 29Big Pot High Stakes Poker
This hand starts out being very innocuous but develops into “the” biggest pot in High Stakes Poker (the TV show) and sets a record in televised poker. Both players remain cool and play out their hands exactly as any player should. The stakes get high because flop looks innocent and with these cards the odds of beating a full house calculate to being unlikely.

Reeferman Seeds
The Reeferman Seed Company is a leader amongst a growing number of Canadian seed producers and breeders, that are now beginning to seriously compete with the Dutch cannabis establishment. In 2004 Reeferman Seeds won the Seed Company Sativa Cup for its Love Potion #1 strain.
The philosophy behind Reeferman Seeds lies in the knowledge that much of the cannabis gene pool is in decline because of inbreeding, some clones being passed around in Holland being 20 years and older. Reeferman Seeds works on the basis that maintaining diversity of genetics is the best way to ensure the existence of a healthy lifeline as cannabis progresses in the 21st century. In accordance with these beliefs Reeferman Seeds has experimented with several popular strains from the 1970′s, previously thought to have been lost forever, including Panama Red and Santa Marta. These land-based strains were collected from their countries of origin – Colombia, Thailand, China, Vietnam etc, then improved through a series of parental selections before being crossed with other purebred strains to create new unique hybrid stains, an example is the cannabis named “Willie Nelson” – available at fine seeds shops online.
Breeder’s Description – ‘Willie Nelson’
Willie Nelson is an F1 hybrid between Vietnamese and Highland Nepalese. This was bred specifically for the man it’s named after, a good ol boy who likes old school sativas, so we combined the best of old school and new school to create Willie Nelson. You’ll be singing along to an old Willie song in about 10 weeks. Finishes quick outdoors for a strong sativa, and has good mold resistance. Good yield, sweet and sour taste, extra cerebral in effect. -

Marijuana Grow Basics: The Easy Guide for Cannabis AficionadosOrder now.
Jorge Cervantes developed his lifelong fascination with cannabis as a university student in Mexico. After graduation, he moved to California in the 1970s where he became a guerrilla grower of “ganja”. In the early 1980s, Cervantes started growing indoors, but a lack of credible information about indoor cultivation led him to author Indoor Marijuana Horticulture in 1983. The book became an instant best-seller, and successful indoor growers dubbed it the “Indoor Grower’s Bible.” Today growers simply call it “The Bible” and the book’s credits list more than three hundred contributors and reads like a “Who’s Who?” in the world of cannabis cultivation.
Now 52, Cervantes is a world-renowned expert on indoor, outdoor, and greenhouse cannabis cultivation. Cervantes moved back to Spain where he lives near the Mediterranean Sea. He continues to photograph and write about cannabis as well as travel the world to research this fascinating medicinal plant. Cervantes writes for High Times Magazine in his monthly question-and-answer column, Jorge’s Rx, and feature articles in some 20 cannabis magazines written in six languages. He has a website and a channel on YouTube.com -

Prince of Pot
Marc Emery is known as the “Prince of Pot” and might be the most well-known cannabis activist alive, certainly he’s Canada’s most well known cannabis activist. After moving to Vancouver, BC in 1993, and founding a headshop called Hemp BC, he played a major part in expanding Canada’s semi-underground industry in cannabis-related paraphernalia. Vancouver police conducted a major raid on Emery’s store in 1996, and seized his entire stock in 1998. After this, he switched his seed business to a mail order basis, and began publishing Cannabis Culture magazine. In 2000, Marc established Pot TV on the internet.
The US Justice Department wants to have Marc and two other Canadians extradited to the USA to be charged with conspiracy to produce marijuana, conspiracy to traffic marijuana, and conspiracy to launder the proceeds of crime. The extradition hearing is scheduled for June 1-5th, 2009 with an appearance February 9-13th for applications. Canadians Marc Emery, Michelle Rainey and Greg Williams, collectively known as the BC3, are fighting extradition to the USA and possible life imprisonment.
Marc was an active member the Marijuana Party of Canada, a political party running to fully legalize (not just decriminalize) cannabis. He also helped found the British Columbia Marijuana Party, which he currently leads and to this day promotes the use and sale of all things hemp and/or cannabis. Kief and Honey Oil
Filed under PotJan 22
Perhaps the greatest smoking experience comes from the cannabis derivatives in the form of “Keif” or “Honey Oil”. Recently I came across this colorful photo in a popular weed forum of the two delightful exotics combined in one bowl, certainly a savory smoke with an extremely stony buzz.
Kif, Kef, Keef, Jeef , Keethan or kief refers to the loose, dried resin glands (or trichomes) of connoisseur grade marijuana. It will often accumulates on containers, in grinders, or be removed with a kiefing screen or sieve. Interestingly the word is similar to the Arabic word “كيف” which literally means “mood”. Kief can be smoked in a number of ways, including using smoking pipes, bongs, or rolling papers resulting in a reefer often called a spliff. -

Poker and the Gambler’s Fallacy
by Johnny Hughes“Lying to ourselves is more deeply ingrained than lying to others.”
Fyodor DostoyevskyYou have been down to half your chips and thought ,”I am due. One big pot and I will get even.”
When the poker game is great and you are not catching any real starting hands, do you anticipate a change of cards that you know must be certain? Do you play double up and catch up, taking more risks when you are behind? This is all part of the Gambler’s Fallacy believing past events influence future events in games of chance. That is why a no limit hold ‘em game starts out slow and tight and picks up steam and gets more money on the table and gets higher as time goes by.
The Gambler’s Fallacy also called the Monte Carlo Fallacy is at the heart of all gambling systems. If a coin hits heads ten times in a row, the odds on heads the next flip are still fifty-fifty.
