Ed RosenthalEd Rosenthal is one of the few stoners who’s become a celebrity because of being a stoner. This Dude is amongst the most righteous marijuana activists of all time and if there were a Stoners Hall of Fame he would have to be the first inductee. Ed is total proof positive that people who smoke weed can be productive, this man has been very busy, especially on behalf of the movement to reform MJ laws and working with the state’s weed growers, dispensaries, and local governments to standardize and implement the delivery of pharmaceutical grade cannabis to patients.
Ed’s conviction is legendary and court cases too many to list, it’s like he’s been the scape goat for the MJ movement but in the entire time his sentence has been more about navigating through court procedures, politics, bureaucracy and legal bull-shit than dealing with incarceration. However, the legal-defense expenses were huge and required an Internet campaign called Green-Aid to assist in funding. Legal battles wage on….
Meanwhile, Ed took up promoting the cause of “Overgrow America” which is so cool, plus he’s the founder and owner of Quick Trading Company in Piedmont, California. Quick Trading publishes the yearly Big Book of Buds Calender, the Big Book of Buds series, Marijuana Buds for Less, Cultivating Exceptional Cannabis, Closet Cultivator, Dank: The Quest for the Very Best Marijuana, Joint Rolling Handbook, Marijuana Garden Saver, and Marijuana Herbal cookbook among others. Make sure you visit Ed Rosenthal’s blog and drop by his Myspace page.

Irish floodMostly it’s just another excuse for a party or a Poker tournament but on this day people everywhere are especially grateful for the indomitable spirit of the Irish. Here’s two quotes to commemorate Saint Patrick’s Day.

“I spent 90% of my money on women and drink. The rest I wasted.”
    - Soccer superstar George Best
“The most important thing to remember about drunks is that drunks are far more intelligent than non-drunks. They spend a lot of time talking in pubs, unlike workaholics who concentrate on their careers and ambitions, who never develop their higher spiritual values, who never explore the insides of their head like a drunk does.”
    - Shane MacGowen, lead singer/songwriter for The Pogues.

Cannabis in JapanTokyo Tom responded to “Japan Sumo Wrestling with Marijuana” with such an interesting comment that I’m including it here:
Cannabis grew naturally in Japan and was used as hemp for centuries; it was not until the post war occupation (that’s WW2 or “The Big One” to you youngsters) that the American GI’s showed the locals another use for cannabis. This new application had a decidedly positive effect on the Japanese war veterans, many of whom had become addicted to meth (speed) during the conflict. Once Douglas MacArthur got wind of the sudden uptake of cannabis consumption he pressured the Japanese government to install the strict penalties now associated with marijuana possession/usage, feeling that baseball would offer a better alternative for the restless population and American soldiers. — Thank you Tokyo Tom, for this nugget of knowledge.

Rob KampiaRob Kampia is co-founder and executive director of the Marijuana Policy Project, the largest 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization in the U.S. that is solely dedicated to ending marijuana prohibition and when asked directly about his own weed consumption by High Times Magazine he evades by answering that whether or not a particular marijuana policy activist uses marijuana has very little to do with whether our nation’s marijuana laws should be changed.
It would’nt be right to blog about the personal choice of smoking marijuana in the free world and not to mention one of the true Generals for victory in the War on Drugs. Rob Kampia was valedictorian of his 300-person graduating class at Souderton Area High School in 1986, then served three months in prison from November 1989 to February 1990 for growing his own marijuana for personal use at Penn State University, and was elected student body president two years later at that same school. Three days after graduating with honors from Penn State in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Science and minor in English, he moved to Washington, D.C., for the purpose of ending the government’s war on marijuana users.
Rob Kampia deserves respect from scholars and intellects for his politically correct approach to waging war against the U.S. Government, plus he deserves the admiration, support and encouragement from all pot smokers everywhere, for his courage, determination and tenacity against the reefer madness mentality of the U.S. Drug War establishment.
Here is a collection from AlterNet of Rob Kampia’s stories. Here’s a recent video with Rob Kampia.

Moroccan HashishMorocco is an ethnically diverse country with a rich culture and civilization. On November 18, 2006, Morocco celebrated the 50th anniversary of its independence but culturally speaking, Morocco has always been successful in combining its Berber, Jewish and Arabic cultural heritage with external influences such as the French and the Spanish and, during the last decades, the Anglo-American lifestyles. Then you have the fabulous cuisine of Morocco which is a mix of Berber, Spanish, Corsican, Portuguese, Moorish, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and African cuisines.
The primary hash-producing countries in the world are India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Morocco, Lebanon and Egypt in that order but according to statistics Morocco is the biggest weed grower after Afghanistan and the main supplier of hashish into Europe, mainly via Spain. UN figures show Morocco’s hashish trade is estimated to net $12bn a year, so it stands to reason that there will be plenty available “in-country” for a foreign guest.
Smoking hashish, locally known as ‘kif” is illegal in Morocco but plenty of people do and in every Moroccan city you will find small cafes where local men smoke their water pipes while playing cards and drinking mint tea but it’s the beaches that attract most tourists to Morocco and that’s the best place to enjoy a nice spiff on a hot day. There are two major beach regions: Mediterranean Coast and Atlantic Coast.
Morocco sunsetThe Mediterranean coast offers warmer, calmer waters than on the Atlantic side but cleanliness and charm may be a problem, such as on the beaches around Tangier.
Plage Quemada near Al Hoceima is half way between Tangier and Algeria is one of the best Moroccan Med beaches, although inevitably crowded. On the Atlantic side waves and currents can be difficult and the water is always chilly but big, pleasant beaches are easy to find. South of Tangier Grotte d’Hercule is clean and popular, as is Larache beach further down the coast.
Rabat and El Jadida both sport good beaches while calm and pretty friendly Essaouira port to the south is known for constant wind so loved by wind/kite surfers. Agadir in the far south sports big beaches, 300 days of sunshine a year and is the province of tour groups and monster resort hotels.
The best however, is 20 miles past Agadir on the way to Tiznit there are stunning beaches visited by few perhaps because there’s a distinct shortage of hotels around here. Sidi Rbat is possibly Morocco’s best beach, so now all you need is your beach gear and some great Moroccan Hashish and you’re in for the best vacation of your life.

  • White Widow Weed

white widowWhite Widow is an extremely potent and powerful strain of marijuana with sweet, strong, acrid smoke that imparts a hammering stone. White Widow was the winner of the 8th Cannabis Cup in 1995, developed by Greenhouse Tolstraat from Amsterdam by crossing an Indian indica strain with a Brazilian sativa strain, giving it a 60% sativa 40% indica ratio.
My advice for smoking White Widow Weed, especially if it’s your first experience and it happens to be in a coffee shop in Amsterdam upon your arrival to Netherlands, is to make sure you’ve checked-in to your hotel room first, before you ignite a reefer or bong of this wicked weed because you might not be able to converse seriously with anyone for a few hours.
Due to it’s high THC levels, the White Widow may appear white or coated with a white frosting hence the term “White” Widow and this is exactly what makes it very popular with growers, also because it flowers within 50 – 65 days and has a high yield for plant that only grows to a height of 150 cm.
