Reefer Charity Poker Tournament
Sommer Skye, the daughter of our poker buddy DrCheckRaise, is a 21 year old young lady full of energy with a beautiful spirit, who had been living on her own for only a short time. Late one night, she was returning a video to the video store for a friend and was involved in a head on collision just a few miles from her home.
She had 11 hours of soft tissue surgery on her face on the night of the accident, and there will be additional surgeries in the years to come. Her family is so thankful that she was fortunate enough to survive that evening and prays that this will not break her beautiful spirit.
The auto and medical insurance will not come close to covering what lies ahead. Please consider helping this young lady not to lose hope so early in life.

The Sheriff of Shawneetown
Recently I said that I don’t like writing about pot busts, well I need to make an exception to that and say that if it’s good cops gone bad, as in the case of the Sheriff of Shawneetown Illinois then I’ll drop whatever I’m doing to assist in making the hypocrite notorious. Ray baby, some day you’re going to Google your name and read what I have to say: To serve and protect did not mean to serve yourself and protect your profits. You are the lowest of the low, it wouldn’t surprise me for a second if you were using your ill begotten proceeds to support an out-of-control meth habit, eh Ray baby? Well I hope you like your new friends at Joilet State Penitentiary, I’m sure there’s lot’s of brothers there that can’t wait to get re-acquainted with you and this time they won’t be the ones wearing hand-cuffs.Martin’s popularity in the county surrounding Shawneetown — boasting little more than a courthouse, a couple of convenience stores and Rudy’s barbecue restaurant — swept the Democrat to re-election four times since he took office in 1990.
A criminal complaint accuses him of distributing more than two pounds of marijuana between April 27 and May 11. But an affidavit by Glenn Rountree, an investigator with the Drug Enforcement Administration, suggests Martin’s dealings were many times that total.
In a blow-by-blow account painting a picture of a good cop gone bad, Rountree wrote that Martin hatched a marijuana-dealing scheme in November with the drug dealer who later got cold feet.
At that time, Martin handed the dealer, unidentified in court papers, two pounds of pot and asked if the man could “get rid of that” for the sheriff, who promised he’d use his power to protect him if he ever got caught selling. If the dealer didn’t comply, Rountree wrote, Martin said he could “make up” a crime against him.Have a read of another report: Judge: monumental amount of evidence brought against sheriff facing drug charges

Grand Parent Pot Heads
Generally I try not to write about pot busts because there are so many every day, which is bad enough already, with all that good herb going to the cops, also I avoid the topic because it’s negative news that doesn’t need to be reverberated around the web but this story about the Griswald Conn. couple just had to be blogged:RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.–An elderly Connecticut couple traveling through Arkansas have been arrested after police discovered more than 219 pounds of marijuana inside of their truck. Arthur N. Scherp Sr., 71, and Helene I. Scherp, 69, of Griswold, Conn. were stopped by an Arkansas State Police trooper Thursday on Interstate 40. Troopers say the couple offered a nonsensical travel story and acted nervous.
The trooper says the couple had cellophane-bundled packets of marijuana in their truck’s bed and another bag of marijuana was discovered in a passenger-side door.
Police say Arthur Scherp later told investigators he got $5,000 for making the trip. The couple are being held on $35,000 bond.In another report from Connecticut Eyewitness News they provide a video clip and more details including the fact that the couple were also found to have in their possession a small bag and a pipe, which would explain why they were acting nervous, since they were probably stoned at the time and the cargo was likely primo gear (who grows bunk anymore?).
Very sad story, especially because they broke the first cardinal rule of being busted and now everything that was said to the disbelieving cops Can and Will be used against them. It would have been so easy for them to have said; “look officers, you wouldn’t believe us if we told you. It’s just too bizarre how we have found ourselves in this predicament, therefor we’re going to let our attorney explain it once we’ve had a chance to consult with him”. ~ Nothing you can say at the time of the arrest will help you. Know your rights! -
White House Drug Czar Kerlikowske
Filed under PeopleMay 17Kerlikowske as the White House Drug Czar makes for some interesting reading and he’s getting lots of print since being confirmed on May 7th, as head the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (Drug Czar sounds better).
A quick check of Google news shows 321 articles in the past few days and today’s top stories are from the OpEd of the NY Times, LA Times and Seattle Times all touting rhetoric about the “war on drugs” being over. Then Huffington Post has been covering the topics surrounding Mr. Kerlikowske as has NORML, taking issue to the recurring theme that pot is more potent than it used to be. My favorite on that topic was by AlterNet “The Media Doesn’t Get That Hyping Potent Pot Makes More People Want to Smoke It”
Wall Street Journal published White House Czar Calls for End to ‘War on Drugs’ which elicited over 200 comments (including mine) but of all these great news organizations it had to be left to Steve Bloom of Celebstoner to do some actual reporting (rather than regurgitating White House blather) with his blog post “Kerlikowske’s Dilemma” that actually provides some useful interesting information, which I shared on a Yahooka thread today.Tagged as: Kerlikowske -
Oaksterdam University
A friend of mine from New Orleans called me the other day and said she was considering going back to school and being that she’s over 50 years old I was a little surprised but when she told me she was considering enrolling in Oaksterdam University I got-it. See, she’s a person that can’t stand hypocrisy and has been complaining to me for years that the truth about the benefits of the cannabis plant have been intentionally suppressed, and she’s always quick to point a finger at a big-pharm conspiracy. On top of her contention she also senses some major business opportunity for people in the right place when the laws change, her target location is Florida and even though there’s no prediction of medical marijuana there any time real soon, my friend wants to be ready to capitalize in the sunshine state when the time comes for legal marijuana.
So in order to get any kind of accreditation, experience and knowledge there’s currently only one school in the country providing this type of a cannabis curriculum, and that’s Oaksterdam University:
Oaksterdam University is the first trade school in the world offering quality training for the cannabis industry. If you are interested in working for or opening your own cannabis-related business, want to become a cannabis legalization activist, or are interested in learning to grow your own, Oaksterdam University is for you!
Oaksterdam has two campuses at present but news has it that they will be hosting a seminar in Michigan and taking the Oasterdam University to Michigan, this coming weekend – May 23rd and 24th in Ann Arbor, Michigan. So maybe this college course concept will start growing across the country, especially as baby-boomer kids graduate high-school and tell their stoner parents that they want to enroll in Cannabis College, what a great thing!

Sativa Afghani Genetic Equilibrium (SAGE)
TH Seeds launched a new site and now today announced that Doug and Adam from Hempworks, Amsterdam, and founder of TH Seeds (8 time winner of the High Times Cannabis Cup) will be in Los Angeles for the THC Expo on June 13/14 with a booth at the Expo.
On the new TH Seeds website there are some phenomenal photos sent in by the growers, including a series of pictures of massive, outdoor grown S.A.G.E. plants, and in case you were curious about the name, here’s the description:The name says it all ! Sativa Afghani Genetic Equilibrium®, a well balanced Haze crossed with a robust Indica that produces a power- packed plant with over 20 % T.H.C. Fast becoming a legend, S.A.G.E.® took 2nd place in the blind test of the 2001 High Times Cannabis Cup also the hash made out of this plant won 1st place in 2000, both of these victories were based on overall strength and quality. High T.H.C. and low C.B.D. make this plant a perfect head stash variety. Spicy sandalwood flavor combined with a long lasting and uplifting high make this the plant for those who must have the best. Longer flowering time is rewarded with large buds that will seem to double in size in the last few weeks.
Make sure you check out the new site of TH Seeds

African Reefer Madness
The chairman / Chief Executive of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Alhaji Amadu Giade, yesterday gave the estimated number of cannabis abusers in Africa at 42 million just as he disclosed that the continent accounts for 26 percent of global cannabis production. Now I thought that was an interesting choice of words “cannabis abusers,” it made think of people slapping their marijuana plants around when they come home drunk. The article published in This Day Online, the website for “This Day” an African Newspaper was so ridiculous that it reminded me of Reefer Madness. So I decided to do a little more digging on this topic to learn a more about weed on the dark continent.
Lagos, Nigeria where the top NDLEA chairman, Mr. Giade, is from and I presumed based, is the most populous urban area in Nigeria with 7,937,932 inhabitants. It is currently the second most populous city in Africa, and estimated to be the second fastest growing city in Africa (7th fastest in the world), immediately following Barmako, Mali. Lagos, formerly the capital of Nigeria is a huge metropolis, originated on islands separated by creeks, such as Lagos Island.
As for access to weed on the streets of Lagos, according to WeBeHigh.com
Smoking tolerance level: 4 out of 5 (where 5 is legal)
Legislation: Marijuana is illegal in Nigeria and so is any related action
Law enforcement: Depends on who you ask. Some say to be discreet, others smoke in front of the police on the street. Nigeria is Known as the third most corrupt country in the world. So a couple of dollars will get you a long way..
Where to buy marijuana: Akerele around the market is where you get the good ganja. Around African Shrine, Agidingbi, and Oshodi you will also find allot of pot. Our latest info says go to the beaches. Koramo beach is like the Nigerian little Amsterdam. Nigerians love to get high in front of the ocean and enjoy the view for hours!!!
Marijuana prices: 10 Grams goes fore N400 around 3 dollars
In closing, I’d like to suggest to the chairman / Chief Executive of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Alhaji Amadu Giade, that he learn the difference between a drug and an herb, so that he could focus his energies on more serious issues because according to other reports marijuana is grown on large-scale farms in many parts of Nigeria and is smuggled across its porous borders to neighboring countries but worse is that lax customs control and corruption, have made Africa’s top oil and gas producer, a conduit for hard drugs from Asia and Latin America on there way into Western markets. Dude (Mr. Giade), get your priorities straight. -
Arnold Schwarzenegger Debate Team
Filed under PeopleMay 7A major media stir was created when California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger called for an open debate on legalizing and taxing marijuana. We’re constantly reminded that a recent Field Poll showed that 56 percent of Californians support taxing and regulating marijuana, by every newspaper and media outlet in the country, including the Wall Street Journal. Even Wolf Blitzer had a segment about Arnold in the Situation Room and there must be lot’s of newsroom jokes about the Governor being the terminator of marijuana prohibition but Wolf resisted.
Searching this topic on Google News there is 448 News articles, of course the Blogosphere will be ten times that many stories.
Ryan Grimm from Huffington Post covered this story well, in: Arnold: Time To Talk About Legalizing Pot – which had about 330 comments but my favorite piece was a blog article on High Times by Joseph Klare (aka StonerJesus420) called: Ok Arnold, Let’s Debate. Here we find Arnold’s debate team on video.
