As I’ve admitted in another article on this blog (see: Cannabis Pornography), I’m a huge fan of weed photography and can admit it may have been one of the factors that prompted me to start Reefer Smoke. Every day I look at pictures and videos of plants and buds, or as often as I can I love to inspect real plants but I can honestly say that I’ve never seen marijuana photography like that on NugPorn.com. I chose “Purple Dragon” cannabis strain for this recommendation because I was amazed by the colors in the photo but truthfully, there’s not a bad image on the entire site and the sheer number of exquisite cannabis strains alone should earn the site a 5 star commendation.

The Green Reefer and his sidekick Six-Pack hang-out in the DF Dub area of Texas, or D-Town, also known as Dallas Fort Worth, home to a major crime syndicate boss Gee Dub, whom they keep an eye on, as well as other immoral scum-bags.
In an early episode of The Green Reefer, in which the pair of crime fighters first partner up, when an old enemy of Six-Pack’s named Tequila the Barracho Malo (mean drunk) attempts to poison Six-Pack’s burrito in a D-Town eatery but accidentally serves it to the wrong customer. Soon a big fight ensues and after a giant bong hit the Green Reefer jumps into action to help-out the his new friend Six-Pack, to stave off the Tequila. The Dutch Model has proven to be the best possible way of approaching a world wide problem, the control of drug use and abuse. This report was written in 2002 which was also the year of the 30th anniversary of the birth of a Dutch phenomena, the Hash-coffeeshop, where people can ‘score’ and smoke cannabis-resin and marijuana.

- Cannabis has been for almost 30 years, is now, and will continue to be legally sold in the Netherlands at hundreds of cannabis-selling cafes to adults over 18 years of age;
-The 43 cannabis-selling cafes scheduled to close (or re-locate) in 2011 are part of citywide effort to gentrify parts of Amsterdam’s ‘Old City’ that are prime for urban and tourist redevelopment;
- Cannabis tourists from Germany and Belgium can no longer readily purchase cannabis at nearby cross border cannabis-selling cafes or in the center of Maastricht;
-The Dutch still have the best, most effective and humane cannabis policy in the world.

Wernard Bruining, Weed and the Weesperzijde.
The first ‘official’ teahouse or coffeeshop in Holland was opened by Wernard Bruining and some friends, at the Weesperzijde 53 in Amsterdam, in a squatted bakeryshop, in 1972. It was actually a logical follow-up of the friend to friend service that was going on in the place before that, but the group of friends extended rapidly, smoking hash, drinking tea and relaxing together.
“That gave us the idea to open a teahouse or a coffeeshop, that was easy, since there was no permit required. The name was inspired by the Donovan hit in those days : Mellow Yellow. “If you do not have anything to smoke, you can always get a little high of a baked bananapeel !” as Wernard explains it.
There were other adresses to get hash or weed, like Paradiso and Kashba, both youth-centers, and in the Melkweg and Famos, for instance. Besides these public places the city had some housedealers, two of them above the former policestations at the Overtoom and Stadionweg, where the customers were informed not to throw their roaches out of the window, on the doorstep of the Police, do not wake up a sleeping cop!

What I find so inspiring about Danny Danko is his attitude towards marijuana, he acknowledges all the voices for change and recognizes the organizations for reformation of marijuana laws, even promotes them and works with all of them but at the core of his message, is the ideology of a true Cannabis cultivation connoisseur and an advocate for unadulterated recreational growing and smoking.
It’s too easy to get caught up in the politics of pot, especially if you’re an editor of a magazine. Even the conspiracies against medical marijuana, or perhaps the new hypocrisy of marijuana dispensaries in California (ie. More weed boutiques than Starbucks franchises etc…), or maybe the controversy of Mexican Drug cartels camping out in Federal Parks to manage grow-ops, now that’s just a short list of compelling conversations for an editor to get engrossed in but instead of any of that, Mr. Danko has kept his passion pure and simple – cultivation of cannabis.
