Pot Plant Grown By Tampa Police Department

A marijuana plant was found growing inside a city planter in downtown Tampa on Tuesday, according to police.“The growing pot plant tested positive for THC,” said Capt. David Goodman.
THC is the active chemical in medical marijuana.
The planter is located on the busy corner of N. Franklin and Madison streets, right across the street from the Tampa Police Department.
“That’s interesting, isn’t it?” said Judi Nibbelink.
“I am a little surprised that no one has noticed that this growing weed plant isn’t a tree. A regular tree or a regular plant,” said Michelle Gilbert.
“That’s kind of weird man,” said Dino Jones.
Goodman said he doesn’t believe someone was trying to send a message or play a pot based joke on the police.
“I don’t think anybody was trying to test our knowledge or see how much we were appreciating the city’s beautification efforts,” Goodman said. “I think purely coincidence.”
In fact, Goodman found its proximity to another building interesting.
“It’s outside a local pharmacy,” Goodman said. “Maybe this isn’t what they had in mind when they think of medicinal use.”
Justin Grimes, 26, said he first spotted the marijuana while walking to lunch with his brother.

“Right across from the police station,” Grimes said. “Right in front of a drug pharmacy and with a Tampa cleanup crew walking all around it for the last hour and a half. That’s pretty funny to me. Nobody noticed it.”
Goodman said he’s glad citizens are being aware of their surroundings and the plant was found before the Republican National Convention.
“It could definitely have been a little embarrassing,” Goodman said. “I’m glad that whoever happened to notice this was a good citizen and brought it to our attention so we could take care of it.”
The marijuana plant is considered DANGEROUS and as such will be destroyed. A criminal case is not going to be opened, who would they charges?“I suppose there could be a thousand explanations as to how it got there,” he said. “Whether it’s through pollination or somebody decided to actually intentionally planted marijuana there.”
Goodman said the small marijuana plant, only a few inches high, was not mature enough to produce something that could be used as an illegal drug.
