College kids party during the years on campus – doing keg stands and smoking out of gravity bongs. Choosing the lesser of 2 evils is now squashed with Ithaca College option to balance the repercussions for underage drinking of booze and smoking / possession of cannabis. Due to the arduous efforts of the Student Government Association and the students for Sensible Drug Policy, the two vices are now on level playing ground. This new plan is not an open invitation to smoke pot and drink booze, yet rather to promote the kids to base their choices on health, instead of worrying how drastic the consequence is.
Yes, limiting the sanctions for having cannabis made the increasing consequences for a 1st- time liquor offense to create equality of the two. Yet, booze is more considered as harmful, if not more, for building a brain than marijuana. With the addition to the education element for both charges, the university is placing the well-fare of their students as a priority. This new change cultivates a concern of what R.A. (resident assistants), that normally write citations and trash all liquor, are going to go in instances where Public Safety could typically be required. Given the new fact that liquor and marijuana are now equal, those individuals that are cozy of discarding of booze bottles and marijuana paraphernalia with added instructions – with the support of nearby cops.
The years of college life is an era of being independent and decision-making of an adult. With the news rules and regulations, Ithaca students are now given the chance to claim that self-sufficiency while understanding the penalties for his or her behavior are identical. Simply by teaching college students about the dangers of booze and benefits of pot, the school has done a service to the university by opening the entranceway to better alternatives.
